Nicole Richie Checks Into Jail For Her 4 Day Sentence; Pregnant Actress Released in 82 Minutes From Custody

The L.A. County Sheriff's Department made this statement to the media regarding the 82-minute incarceration of the pregnant Ms. Nicole Richie:

"On August 23 2007, at 3:15 PM Miss Nicole Camille Richie reported to CRDF and surrendered herself following a July 27 arrest, she was sentenced to serve 96 hours in County Jail. Miss Richie was accompanied by her attorney, Shawn Chapman Holley and her boyfriend Joel Madden. Miss Richie was booked and processed into the jail system. Miss Richie was cooperative during the process. Based on her sentence and federal court guidelines, Miss Richie was released at 4:37 PM today."

Nicole Richie spent only 82 minutes (1 hour and 22 minutes) in jail today and only 35 of those minutes were spent in an actual jail cell.

So far (like I always said from the start) Paris Hilton's sentencing (45 days= 23 days served in jail/22 days good time behavior credits) seems to be the harshest sentence given to a high profile celebrity in recent years (especially considering the cocaine felonies that disappeared from La Lohan's case and pregnant Nicole Richie's quickie stay at Lynwood).

NICOLE RICHIE SENTENCED TO 4 DAYS IN JAIL

96 hours in jail for The Simple Life star, who was charged with misdemeanor driving under the influence of drugs earlier today in a Los Angeles courtroom, with boyfriend and father to her unborn child Joel Madden at her side. Nicole must report to jail by September 28, 2007.

Nicole Richie Is Pregnant

Per several media outlets, including TMZ.com, Nicole Richie is 3 months pregnant and expecting in January. This adds a dilemma to the already complicated legal issues Nicole faces in August in a Los Angeles Courtroom. She faces charges stemming from her now infamous "wrong side of the freeway" driving incident, in which she allegedly admitted to police that she smoked marijuana and took a Vicodin before getting behind the wheel.




That means when I took the above picture of Nicole at "The Late Show With David Letterman" last month, she was about 8 weeks pregnant.

Nicole Richie In NYC For Late Show With David Letterman Appearance

Nicole Richie looked radiant in Midtown Manhattan earlier today to promote The Simple Life Goes To Camp on The Late Show With David Letterman. Her friend and co-star, the recently incarcerated Paris Hilton, was initially scheduled to appear with Richie.

Nicole also spoke to Letterman about the possibility of going to jail herself for being pulled over several months back for her wrong side of the highway driving incident. Nicole has announced through her attorney that she will fight the charges in court. Ms. Richie's trial date is scheduled for July 11, 2007.

Nicole Richie Talks To Ryan Seacrest on KIIS-FM Los Angeles About Rehab Rumors, Paris' Jail Sentence

Nicole Richie went on On Air with Ryan Seacrest's KIIS FM morning radio show today and said she thinks that because she was not photographed by paparazzi for over a week, bogus reports surfaced she was in rehab for drug abuse and an eating disorder. Nicole said she was with her boyfriend Joel Madden on tour with his band Good Charlotte, not in rehab.

Nicole also spoke about her friend and "The Simple Life" co-star Paris Hilton being scared to go to jail next week:


Ryan Seacrest: "Is she scared?"


Nicole Richie: "Wouldn't you be?"


Ryan Seacrest reported on tonight's E! News that Paris has been breaking down crying and not eating as much and that her parents Rick and Kathy are worried about her. Nicole Richie told Ryan Seacrest:

"The way that Paris' whole entire case was dealt with was, A, out of her control but B, really unfair," Richie said. "Sometimes people just get exploited so I can only hope that doesn't happen to me."

Nicole mentioned that she is also nervous she may have to spend time in jail for her wrong-side-of-the-highway DUI arrest, in which authorities reported that Nicole revealed to them that she smoked marijuana and took a Vicodin before she got behind the wheel and was stopped by cops. Nicole says, "I have to deal with any consequences that come my way."

The case is still pending. Nicole Richie's next court date is June 8th, 2007 per CBS' Entertainment Tonight.

Nicole also spoke about her Memorial Day party/ barbecue last weekend, where Mischa Barton was hospitalized for reportedly mixing antibiotics and alcohol, which cause a severe adverse reaction. The party was said to have featured a pre-rehab appearance by Lindsay Lohan. Richie says she was not present for Lindsay's "five-minute" visit because she was at the supermarket "buying Sunny Delight."
